Law enforcement is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident on Route 70 in Evesham Township, NJ. The tragic accident occurred a short time after 6:30 a.m. in the Marlton area of Evesham Township, New Jersey. The victim, a 52-year-old Camden NJ woman, was attempting to cross the road in the area of Route 73 when a Ford Explorer crashed into her. At the time of the auto accident, the Ford Explorer was reportedly traveling westbound on the highway. It is unclear at this time how far into the roadway the victim was when she got hit or which lane of the six-lane highway the vehicle was in when it struck the pedestrian. After crashing into the victim, the driver of the SUV stopped to offer assistance and also reportedly called for emergency medical assistance. Additionally, other motorists who witnessed the accident dialed 911 and alerted local law enforcement. Police officers and emergency medical crews arrived at the scene of the accident and tried valiantly to save the victim’s life, but they were unable to do so. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. According to officials, the driver who allegedly struck the pedestrian was fully cooperating with police during the investigation. While police investigated the auto accident, authorities closed down a small section of the highway. Regardless of the outcome of the police investigation, it is possible that the family members of the pedestrian who died may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the motorist. Depending on the circumstances that led to the fatal auto accident, the plaintiffs in a wrongful death lawsuit could potentially seek compensation for pain and suffering, loss of income, and other damages.
