Ex-Con Allegedly Eludes Voorhees Police, Crashes Car in Evesham Township, NJ

Voorhees police officers recently arrested a Beverly NJ man who allegedly led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit and then crashed his car into several other vehicles in Evesham Township, New Jersey. After making the arrest, police discovered that the suspect reportedly has a checkered criminal past that includes a prior conviction for aggravated manslaughter in connection with a brutal beating death more than 20 years ago.

Police Chase Starts in Voorhees, Ends in Evesham

Voorhees NJ patrol cops allegedly saw the suspect driving erratically and committing multiple traffic offenses while driving on a Voorhees road. The police officers attempted to pull over the suspect’s vehicle, but he allegedly continued driving and led the cops on a chase across multiple municipalities. The police officers pursued the suspect on Route 73 in Voorhees. The chase eventually came to an end in Evesham NJ when the suspect reportedly crashed into several cars and then flipped over. Multiple people sustained injuries as a result of the car accident. The suspect is a 46-year-old man who lives in Beverly, New Jersey. Law enforcement initially struggled to figure out the suspect’s identity because he allegedly lied to the arresting officers and provided a fake name. However, a computer check soon revealed the suspect’s actual identity.

Prior Conviction for Killing a Man in Willingboro, NJ

According to authorities, the suspect already has a criminal record. He was reportedly convicted of killing a man in 1993. The homicide victim, a 39-year-old man, lived with the suspect in a Willingboro residence. The suspect allegedly used a hammer to strike the victim, his roommate, in the head. The suspect then reportedly stole the victim’s van, forged a number of checks in the victim’s name, and withdrew money from the victim’s bank account. The suspect was arrested, but he managed to avoid a life sentence for the killing by reaching a plea deal with prosecutors: he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and was subsequently sentenced to a term of incarceration of 15 years in New Jersey State Prison. Additionally, the suspect has reportedly been arrested on several occasions for eluding police. In fact, authorities indicated that the suspect had “numerous warrants for eluding law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions during high-speed pursuits over the past three weeks.” Those warrants had already resulted in the suspect’s license being suspended. Now that the suspect is in police custody, he faces new charges, including:

·      Eluding police

·      Resisting arrest by flight

·      Obstruction of justice

·      Providing false information to law enforcement

The suspect has also been cited for a number of moving violations. After being arrested and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility in Camden, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail amount.
